At the end of every season in the Barclays Premier League, comes the tradition of Championship Sunday. On the last day of the season, every team is in action simultaneously, and there are usually standings positions on the line. This day creates excitement for the fans and creates craziness at the end of the BPL season every year.
This year, MLS decided to take a play out of the BPL playbook and implement their own “Decision Day.” On Sunday, October 25th, every team in the MLS will be in action playing their final games of the season. All Eastern Conference teams will play at 5:00 ET, with the Western Conference teams playing at 7:00 ET.
In the Eastern Conference, 5 out of the 6 playoff spots have already been filled. This leaves 2 teams fighting for the final playoff spot. In the Western Conference, 4 teams have already clinched, and there are 3 teams battling for the final 2 spots. Here’s a breakdown of who’s in, who’s out, and who’s on the bubble…

Some Important games coming up this Sunday…
New England Revolution vs. New York City F.C.
This game has the potential to clinch the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference for the Revolution. They have more points and a better goal differential than Orlando City F.C., so a win or a draw would guarantee the final spot for the Revs. If they lose, they could still theoretically advance with a loss or a tie by Orlando City.
Portland Timbers vs. Colorado Rapids
Portland can clinch a playoff spot with a win against Colorado. A loss or a draw could mean them missing out on the postseason.
Seattle Sounders vs. Real Salt Lake
Seattle can also clinch with a win on Sunday. It would still be possible for them to clinch with a draw, but a loss would eliminate them.
Sporting Kansas City vs. Los Angeles Galaxy
Sporting K.C. needs to win and they need some help if they are going to be playing another game after Sunday. Their fate is out of their hands, so the best they can do is show up ready to play against an LA team that will be most likely resting players for the playoffs.
It looks like Sunday is going to be an exciting time for soccer in the United States. Here’s to lots of drama, lots of goals, and a newfound tradition in the MLS.
